Solutions Architect interview tips
- Practice whiteboarding system designs end-to-end — interviewers will ask you to design systems on the spot and evaluate your thought process, trade-off analysis, and communication as much as the final design.
- Be prepared to discuss specific architectures you have designed, including the constraints, alternatives considered, and lessons learned — depth of experience matters more than breadth of buzzwords.
- Know the major cloud services across at least one provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and understand when to use managed services versus self-managed solutions.
- Prepare to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience, as solutions architects must bridge the gap between engineering and business stakeholders.
- Brush up on distributed systems concepts: CAP theorem, eventual consistency, saga pattern, CQRS, and event sourcing — these come up frequently in architecture interviews.
